Books
A small sampling of books I often recommend
When Things Fall Apart - Pema Chodron
The Body Keeps The Score - Bessel Van Der Kolk
No Bad Parts - Richard C. Schwartz
Decolonizing Therapy - Jennifer Mullan
Listening When Parts Speak: A Practical Guide to Healing with Internal Family Systems Therapy and Ancestor Wisdom - Tamala Floyd
Complex PTSD - Pete Walker
Available here and your local bookstore
Meditation
A daily meditation practice is a great comfort to me and many of my clients. I highly recommend Insight Timer App which has many free meditations. Beginning with short, guided meditations is a lovely way to begin your practice. Teachers I recommend (though it is personal preference) are Dan Roberts, Alyssa Chanelle, Emma Donovan.
Also locally in Cambridge we are lucky to have several meditation centers (Kadampa, Peace House, Cambridge Insight). They are very warm and welcoming and often have beginner courses.
Volunteer
Recommending volunteering as a healing practice may seem unusual, however many studies have shown that volunteering provides healing to tnervous system. There are many local organizations that need support. Here is a small list. Please reach out for other recommendations:
Local Mutual Aid and Community Fridges (these often change location so google a spot near you)
Community Cooks
Cradles to Crayons
Eldercare
